Transit for Ward 42, Scarborough-Rouge River

Dear Residents,

I, Councillor Raymond Cho, am privileged to be your elected City representative for Ward 42, Scarborough-Rouge River. As such, I am determined to serve the interests of my constituents and advocate for the needs of our community, as well as committed to ensuring that you and your family are provided with the highest level of service from the City of Toronto. This continues to be my priority when it comes to the issue of transportation and transit in the Ward 42 area.

Recently, Mayor Rob Ford scrapped the Transit City plan and revealed his Transportation City plan. In doing so, the Mayor has eliminated the Scarborough Rapid Transit (RT) extension and the Sheppard Light Rail Transit (LRT) lines which would have brought transit into Scarborough-Rouge River to serve the Malvern and Rouge River areas, and provided better access to Scarborough residences, businesses and the Toronto Zoo.

While Mayor Ford's Transportation City plan includes a Sheppard subway extension, it will only provide additional service east from Don Mills Station and stop at Scarborough Town Centre. As a result, there is absolutely NO transit plan that will extend into Ward 42, Scarborough-Rouge River and will stop before reaching our community's border.

I have stood up against the Mayor's Transportation City because it does not serve the residents of Scarborough-Rouge River and disregards the needs of priority neighbourhoods within Ward 42. Many other City Councillors have voiced their opposition of the Mayor's plan because it ignores the needs of Toronto Citizens in Etobicoke, Finch / North York, and Scarborough. Yet, the Mayor asserts that he is only listening to Toronto taxpayers rather than consulting duly elected representatives. Therefore, it is my hope that you will voice your concerns to Mayor Ford by calling 416-397-FORD (3673) or e-mailing Mayor_Ford@toronto.ca (CC: Councillor_Cho@toronto.ca) as a resident of Scarborough-Rouge River and most importantly a citizen and taxpayer of the City of Toronto. For further information, please contact Grace Kim at 416-392-4067 / 416-392-4076 or gkim2@toronto.ca in my office.

Petition for a new transit plan

The Mayor and his team have cancelled a transit plan
which would have brought the Sheppard Light Rail Transit (LRT) and
a Scarborough Rapid Transit (RT) extension into Scarborough-Rouge River.
The previously approved funds for our community are being used to build
underground subway lines in other parts of the city
and now Ward 42 will have NO new transit.

HOW YOU CAN TAKE ACTION:

You can put your name on a petition and ask the Mayor to reinvest in our community and bring new transit into Ward 42, Scarborough-Rouge River.
